Teacher Killed in French High School Knife

Attack Two Injured in the Tragic Incident...

On Friday in Arras, France, a person with a knife killed one teacher and hurt another at a school. The case is now being handled by the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.

The local Pas-de-Calais authority confirmed that the suspected attacker has been arrested and advised residents to stay away from the city center of Arras.

According to a police source, the suspect was a Russian-born Chechen and a former student of Lycee Gambetta high school, where the attack took place.

The police source revealed that the suspect was on a watchlist called "Fiche S," which includes people seen as potential security risks. However, it's important to know that this list has many names, and only a few are closely watched.

The police couldn't confirm reports from local media that the suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar." According to BFM TV, he was approximately 20 years old.

Philosophy teacher Martin Doussau stated that everyone is in shock. He was pursued by the attacker but managed to stay safe by locking himself in a room.

"He was looking for a history teacher," Doussau informed Reuters. "That's what makes me believe this wasn't linked to a personal issue or a personal grudge against a teacher."

Increased Security

A second police source mentioned that there was no immediate sign of a connection between the attack and the conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement.

President Emmanuel Macron is on his way to Arras, as reported by his office. In a national address the day before, Macron encouraged the French to stand united and avoid bringing the Israel-Hamas conflict into their daily lives.

According to BFM TV, the person who lost their life was a French language teacher, and a sports teacher was stabbed and injured in the incident.
