Tejashwi Yadav calls Bihar Special Armed Police Bill "draconian"

On Tuesday, during the Assembly session, the RJD leaders shouted slogans against the bill due to which the House was adjourned multiple times.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the state government over Bihar Special Armed Police Bill, 2021 and claimed that the "draconian Act would give absolute powers to police." After uproar in the state Assembly on Tuesday, Mr Yadav tweeted, "Draconian Act which will give absolute powers to police, so that it can act as veritable arm of Nitish's dictatorial politics, has been passed in police protection by throwing out battered MLAs using police itself," along with a video of the happenings inside the Assembly.

On Tuesday, during the Assembly session, the RJD leaders shouted slogans against the bill due to which the House was adjourned multiple times. Mr Yadav has been sharing photos and videos of MLAs who got injured and were dragged by security personnel. He alleged that opposition MLAs wanted to speak against the Bill but they were assaulted. Women MLAs were also carried out of the assembly building by women security personnel. RJD MLA Satish Kumar was brought out of the Assembly on a stretcher.

Mr Yadav claimed that new law means that searches will be conducted without a warrant. "We wanted to speak but we were thrashed. This law means that search will be conducted without a warrant and any policemen can arrest if they believe something is wrong. There is no use of courts and magistrates," he said.
