Telangana Woman Kills Herself And Her Child Over Dowry Harassment

A 24-year-old woman was harassed by her husband

On Sunday, A 24-year-old woman in Telangana killed her two-year-old son and then herself allegedly over dowry harassment. The incident was reported from Narketpally mandal in Nalgonda district.

The woman, identified as Lasya, first hanged her son, Satwik, from the ceiling fan and then hanged herself.

The incident was spotted by her neighbours, who rushed in and brought them down. However, they had both died by then, said Narketpally Circle Inspector (CI) Shiva Rami Reddy.

According to a report by The Times of India, there was no suicide note found there.

Police said that Lasya had got married to Naresh, a railway worker from Auravani village in Narketpally. They had gotten married three years ago and Lasya’s family had promised to give Rs. 35 lakh as a dowry.

They initially gave Rs. 10 lakh to Naresh’s family. Naresh, who was posted in Telangana’s Medak district, had taken leave and was staying in Hyderabad to prepare for the state civil service exam.

However, he informed his family that he was no longer interested in it and asked for the remaining dowry money to pursue a poultry business.

“Due to high pressure, Lasya’s family had given him Rs. 20 lakh near about 20 days ago,” said the CI.

However, Naresh had continued to harass his wife and demanded Rs. 10 lakh more from her family since they had delayed giving the entire amount at the time of the wedding, reported TOI.

On Sunday, Police said that, after her mother-in-law had left her house, Lasya first hung her two-year-old son and then herself.

According to Nalgonda Superintendent of Police (SP), a case has been registered, but no arrests have been made yet.
