Thailand Open: Satwik-Chirag lose in the semifinals in men's doubles category

Indian men's doubles pair Satwik-Chirag lost to Malaysian duo Chia-Soh 18-21,18-21 in the semifinals.


The Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty hard fought journey of Thailand Open in men's doubles came to an end in the semifinals on Saturday. The world number 10 Indian duo lost 18-21,18-21 to world number nine Malaysian opponent pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in a 35 minute battle. The Malaysian eighth seeds will face the sixth seeds Lee Yang and Wang Chi Lin of China on Sunday.

The Indian pair had participated in the Super 1000 events in 2018 and 2019 as well but never managed to reach the semifinals. In the first game, both pairs were neck and neck but by the mid-game Chia and Soh took a lead 11-10. Although Satwik and Chirag managed to close the difference 15-16, the Malaysians eventually secured the first game 21-18. In the second game, Chia-Soh took the lead 11-8 till the break while Satwik- Chirag fought hard to make a comeback. However, the Malaysian pair won 21-18 in the second game as well.
