Anurag Thakur, I&B minister, announced it on Twitter on Tuesday. I feel a tremendous feeling of pride and honor in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is receiving the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema," he stated.

He continued, "Waheeda ji has received praise from critics for her performances in Hindi movies, with Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, and many others standing out as notable examples. She has played her roles in her more than five-decade career with the utmost grace, earning her a National Film Award for her part as a clanswoman in the movie Reshma and Shera. Waheeda ji, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, is a prime example of commitment, hard effort, and the power of a Bharatiya Nari who can reach the pinnacle of professional success.
