"This is on you," Rahul Gandhi slams Centre over oxygen shortage, lack of ICU beds

Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Friday, although, Covid can lead to a dip in oxygen levels of a patient, it is the shortage of oxygen supply and the lack of ICU beds in hospitals that are causing deaths.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the Narendra Modi-led government over shortage of oxygen and lack of ICU beds at hospitals and alleged that the shortage has resulted in Covid deaths. Mr Gandhi tweeted on Friday, although, Covid can lead to a dip in oxygen levels of a patient, it is the shortage of oxygen supply and the lack of ICU beds in hospitals that are causing deaths.

"Corona can cause a fall in oxygen level but it's #OxygenShortage & lack of ICU beds which is causing many deaths. GOI, this is on you.," Mr Gandhi tweeted. Lately, several hospitals mainly in Delhi have raised the issue of crisis of oxygen supply, ICU and Covid beds and medicines amid the resurgence of Covid cases.

Today, 25 "sickest patients" died at Sir Ganga Ram hospital in Delhi in last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered all authorities to strictly comply with the orders related to oxygen supply. If non-compliance is noticed, HC has instructed that the respected authorities will be subjected to criminal action.

The Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Centre and asked for a "national plan" on oxygen supply, medicines and vaccines.
