Thousands Protesting Against Hijab Row In Maharashtra's Malegaon

Hijab Row has taken a Shift towards a Nationwide protest!

On Thursday, Thousands of people including females gathered in Maharashtra's Malegaon to protest against the Hijab Row. The rally was organised by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

Karnataka's hijab row has taken a shift towards a nationwide protest, students of different political parties, groups, and colleges are protesting for hijab. This has also created controversy among many party leaders and the community.

According to reports, the organizers of the protest march had not obtained police permission.

The police have booked four organisers for violating prohibitory orders under Section 144. Also, AIMIM MLA Mufti Mohammad Ismail Qasmi, who represents the Malegaon Central seat, has been booked by the police.

On February 10, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil appealed to political parties against staging protests or disturbing peace for political gains over the ‘hijab’ row in neighbouring Karnataka.

“It is not in the interest of Maharashtra and its people to stage protests or disturb peace over something that has occurred in some other State.

He said It is not appropriate to do these things for political gains. I appeal to all political parties and organisations to cooperate in this regard and ensure peace."

The Hijab row started when a few students started coming to a government pre-university college in Udupi wearing Hijab.

To protest against it, some Hindu students turned up wearing saffron scarves. The row spread to other educational institutions in different parts of the State, and the protests took a violent turn at some places earlier this week, prompting the government to declare a three-day holiday for the institutions.

The Maharashtra police are all set under strict vigilance and are controlling the crowd so that no unknown happening occurs during the protest.
