Trump signs Tibet Bill to prevent China’s inclusion from Naming Next Dalai Lama.

The President of the United States of America Donald Trump signed the Tibetan Policy of Support Act 2020 which enables to establish a US consulate in Tibet and will be forming an international coalition to ensure that the next Dalai Lama is appointed by the Tibetan Buddhist community without any interference by China. The law was signed on Sunday as a part of the 2.3 trillion dollar package for the year end bill to provide the corona virus relief and fund the federal government. Despite China’s protest last week the US senate unanimously passed the bill.

According to the new policy the office of the US Special Coordinator for Tibetan issues is now authorized to expand the office’s duties to add tasks such as international coalition. The Secretary of the State has directed not to open a new Chinese consulate in the US unless China allows the opening of an American consulate in Lhasa. The officials of the Chinese government have direct interference with the identification and installation of the 15th Dalai Lama of Tibetan Buddhism who will be the successor of the 14th Dalai Lama. The 14th Dalai Lama is viewed as ‘separatist’ by Beijing who is constantly working to split Tibet from China.

The Tibetan Policy of Support Act 2020 approves 1 million USD per year for the Special US Coordinator in Tibet, towards scholarship provisions it would receive 675000 USD, for scholar exchange initiatives an amount of 575000 USD, for the Autonomous Tibetan Region and Communities in China 8 million USD, for Tibetans living in India 6 million USD and for the Tibetan governance 3 million USD.

The new law also solicits to pursue collaborative efforts with the Chinese and international scientific institutions over the exploitation of natural resources in Tibet region, water in particular and to supervise the environment in the Tibetan Plateau.
