Tolo News reporter beaten up by Taliban, death news false

Ziar Yaad Khan, Tolo News reporter, denied the reports of his death and confirmed that he was beaten up by the Taliban.

Afghanistan's first independent news channel, the Tolo News, had reported the death of one of its reporters Ziar Yaad Khan by the Taliban in Kabul, following which Mr Khan tweeted and denied the death reports.

Ziar Yaad took to his Twitter handle on Thursday and confirmed that he was beaten up by the Taliban at gunpoint in the New City of Kabul while reporting. He added that the reports of his death were false.

"I was beaten by the Taliban in Kabul's New City while reporting. Cameras, technical equipment and my personal mobile phone have also been hijacked. Some people have spread the news of my death which is false. The The Taliban got out of an armored Land Cruiser and hit me at gunpoint," Mr Khan's tweet read.

In another tweet, the reporter expressed concerns over the incident and the way it is being handled by the Taliban. He said that though the issue was taken up with the Taliban leaders, the accused have not yet been arrested, "which is a serious threat to freedom of expression."
