Top-5 Foods To Increase Flavour On Holi


Finally, the day has come to celebrate the most vibrant and colorful festival of the year. Holi 2021 is almost here, and people are showcasing their excitement which is at its peak. Street shops are already packed  with festive essentials like gulaal, gujiya, sweets and more. This year, Holi will be celebrated on March 29, 2021, Monday along with state guidelines due to the pandemic. The festival is all about smearing people with vibrant gulaal in different hues and drenching them in colored waters. Though without Indian food this festival is incomplete which includes gujiya, barfi, thandai, dahi bhalla, pakoda etc. that makes this celebration colourful and scrumptious. Both motichoor ladoo and besan laddu remain our all-time favourites while we also like making various other types of sweets, snacks and drinks to add on to the celebration.

Thandai One of the famous drinks is prepared with a mixture of almonds, fennel seeds, watermelon kernels, rose petals, pepper, poppy seeds, cardamom, saffron, milk and sugar. It is native to India and is often associated with the Maha Shivaratri and Holi or Holla mohalla festival. For the day it is an Indian cold drink.

GujiyaThe earliest mention of gujiya which is a sweet dish starts the celebration. Some people make it at home as well. The mixture is covered with wheat flour and jaggery-honey. The preparatory method of gujiya is long. It takes time so the preparation for homemade gujiya starts before  holi and it looks like an empanada in design and is sweet in taste.

LaddoosThis is another variety of sweets which is known as Laddoos which is made of besan. It is a common sweet prepared across India. For this exotic dessert, a soft dough-like mixture of besan, ghee in good quantity along with dry-fruits are needed which makes it more yummy. It is moulded in shape of a ball and is kept overnight. It seems like a brown moulded ball with a sweet taste.

Dahi BhallaThere should be something spicy along with sweets. It is nearly impossible to celebrate Holi without a few quint essential delicacies, and one such traditional dish is Dahi Bhalla which is a combination of curd, spices, sweet and soggy fried snacks. In North India, Chaat seems to reign the palates. Interestingly, Indian women made this at home on the occasion of holi. The galore of chaat variants will spoil you for choices. Dahi Bhalla has always been known as one of the most popular chaat variants, when it comes to authentic street food in India.

PakodaIn Indian festivals, a special aroma of food is present and all types of flavours exist like sweets, spicy as well as a mix of snacks. Paneer pakoda is one of the most famous pakodas ever known. A piece of paneer is cut into a thick cube and coated with a spicy besan batter and deep-fried. There is also a variety of pakodas in a bunch like cabbage, potato, spinach which is served with green mint- coriander chutney, sliced onions and sweet sauce. To add onto the flavour, sprinkle some chaat masala on it.
