Total Lunar Eclipse on November 8th!

Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in several parts of the world!

On Tuesday (today) , a total lunar eclipse will be visible . As per the information, this will be visible across northeastern states.

A total eclipse of the moon occurs on a full Moon day when the Sun, Earth, and Moon arrange themselves in a straight line. As the sunlight falls on the Earth, it casts a shadow that extends to the orbit of the Moon, beyond Earth. The moon while moving in its orbit, when it enters the Earth’s shadow, becomes an eclipsed moon.

According to the MP Birla Planetarium, Kolkata, a Total Lunar Eclipse is not observed on all full moon nights. This is because during all full moon phases, the Sun-Earth-Moon does not come in a straight line. The reason behind this is, the orbit of the Earth and the orbit of the moon are inclined to each other at an angle of 5 degrees.

While the Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in several parts of the world, in India, only the northeastern states will be able to see some parts of it. The totality period of the eclipse will be visible in Itanagar, Guwahati, Siliguri, Kolkata, and Bhubaneshwar. Delhi, Srinagar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, and Mumbai will be able to see a partial eclipse.

Timings;

The Total Lunar Eclipse will begin at 1:32 PM and while the totality will last for 1 hour 25 minutes, the partial phase of the eclipse will stretch for about 3 hours 40 minutes.

Known as a blood moon, it will appear a reddish-orange from the light of Earth’s sunsets and sunrises. At the peak of the eclipse, the moon will be 390,653 kilometers away, according to Nasa scientists.
