22 Killed in the incident…
New Delhi: A total of 22 pilgrims, including several children and women died and 10 others were injured in Uttar Pradesh (UP) after their tractor-trolley fell in a pond, the police said.
The pilgrims were going to Kadarganj to take a holy dip in the river Ganga when the accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj.
The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.
CM Yogi Adityanath expressed anguish over the incident and announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs each for the family of those who have died, and Rs. 50,000 each for the injured.
"The loss of lives in a road accident in Kasganj district is extremely heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families.
District administration officials have been instructed to provide proper free treatment to all the injured," Yogi Adityanath posted on X – which was earlier known as Twitter.
The Chief Minister has also instructed the authorities to ensure that the injured pilgrims receive proper treatment, his office said.
