Train delays lead to Rs 1.22 Crore loss

20,000 Tickets Cancelled by Railways


In December 2023, amidst the prevailing cold wave and dense fog in Northern India, the Moradabad Division of Indian Railways witnessed the cancellation of a significant 20,000 reserved tickets.

 

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Moradabad Division, Raj Kumar Singh, reported the refund of nearly Rs 1.22 crore to passengers who cancelled their tickets.

 

In a conversation with India Today TV/Aajtak, Singh revealed that out of the overall cancelled reserved tickets, 4,230 were from Bareilly, 3,239 from Moradabad, 3,917 from Haridwar, and 2,448 from Dehradun, among other locations.

 

Singh explained, "We cancelled trains with low occupancy due to foggy conditions. Despite this, 20,000 tickets were cancelled in the Moradabad Division in December 2023."

 

He added, "42 trains have been cancelled until March. Additionally, we have refunded Rs 1.22 crore to passengers."

 

North India has notably been experiencing dense fog and cold wave conditions.

 

Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to persist in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan until January 6 during the night and morning hours.
