Udaipur Tailor Beheaded For Supporting Nupur Sharma’s Remarks

Internet Suspended, Curfew Imposed Amid Attack In Udaipur


Two attackers entered a shop as customers in Udaipur, Rajasthan on Tuesday beheading a tailor, Kanhaiya Lal. Murdering him for backing ex- BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma in a row over the comments on Prophet Mohammad.

 

The incident triggered arson and protests.  Union Home Ministry has sent a team of  National Investigation Agency (NIA) to Udaipur to “explore” whether there was a “terror angle”, which led to security issues in other states like Maharashtra.

 

The police identified the victim’s body and removed it from the spot late at night as  protesters stalled authorities demanding action and compensation for his family.

 

The assailants identified themselves as Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad. These two in a video boasted about the “beheading”. Furthermore, they even issued death threats to Prime Minister Modi and Nupur Sharma.

 

The video of the incident posted by the assailants on social media shows Lal, who ran Supreme Tailors in Udaipur’s Hathi Pole locality.


According to police, Lal claimed that his son had “mistakenly” posted an “objectionable comment” on
Facebook while playing on his phone. He also claimed that he had no knowledge about it until locals questioned him.

 

On Twitter, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot condemned the “heinous murder”. He said that strict action will be taken against all criminals involved in the incident. 

 

He further added that police would be going to the bottom of this heinous crime. While on the other hand the state President of BJP Satish Poonia said Riyaz’s “terrorist links should be investigated”.
