Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son accused of running over farmers skips police summons

Farmer bodies have alleged that Ashish Mishra was driving the car that ran over the protesters.


Union Minister of state for home Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who has been accused of running over protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on October 3 did not appear before the police for questioning on Friday.

Eight people including four farmers died in the incident. Farmers have alleged that a vehicle which was part of the Union Minister's convoy of cars mowed down the protesting farmers. They have alleged that Ashish Mishra was driving the car that ran over the protesters.

An FIR has been filed against Ashish and others and he has been booked for murder and other criminal offences. A notice was put outside Mr Mishra's residence on Thursday summoning his son to appear before the police officials for questioning at 10 am on Friday. However, he skipped the questioning.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report by Friday on who are the accused against whom the FIR has been filed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and how many of them have been arrested so far.
