The new project, Pambam Bridge, will help the railways to operate trains at higher speeds, carry more weight and control the traffic between Pamban and Rameswaram.

On Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to his Twitter handle and shared a few glimpses of the Pamban bridge which is situated in Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram.

Apparently, Ashwini shared his proud moment of India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge. We can see an aerial shot of the wonderfully constructed bridge which has been shared on social media. In the first picture, the bridge can be seen situated in between the clear blue skies and the sea, while in the second picture, the close-up of the railway track as well as workers and machinery deployed at the site is visible. The pictures were shared along with the caption, “New Pamban Bridge, India’s first vertical lift Railway sea bridge. Target #Infra4India March 2022.”

Simultaneously Indian Railways began the construction of the new 2.05 km Pamban railway bridge project in Mandapam, which will be connected to Rameswaram to the mainland in Tamil Nadu.
