Union Minister Shripad Naik injured in a car crash; his wife, close aide dead

Shripad Naik's wife Vijaya died on her way to the hospital while his personal assistant Deepak died at the government hospital in Karnataka.


Union Minister of state for AYUSH and Defence Shripad Naik got injured in a car crash while his wife Vijaya Naik and his personal assistant Deepak Dube suffered severe injuries and died. The accident occurred near Hosakambi village in Ankola taluk of Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district on Monday. The minister suffered multiple injuries and has been shifted to Bambolim Hospital in Goa

"The accident occurred between 7:45 pm and 8 pm. Two people suffered serious injuries- the wife of the minister and an aide. The minister also had multiple injuries," Additional SP for Karwar region S Badarinath said. According to the police, there were three more people in the car- a friend of the minister, his personal guard and the driver, who suffered minor injuries. The police also said that the accident took place while they were on their way to Gokarna via Ankola and Yellapura.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant to provide best treatment to the minister in Goa. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the death of the minister's wife, Vijaya.
