Rape and Murder

On Sunday night in the western Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) district of Buduan a 50-year old woman was allegedly gang raped and murdered by three men which included a priest and his two disciples. The police say that of all the 3 men two men have been arrested. The image taken on Monday morning at the women’s village shows her body laid out on a shack and is surrounded by the members of the family and the villagers. In the picture her lower body appears to be covered with a yellow sheet soaked in blood and one of her legs appears to be broken and bent at the foot.

On Monday afternoon the son of the victim appeared on a local news channel and said “They bought her on their own in a vehicle. She was dead when they left her here. The priest and others dropped her at the door and left quickly,” adding further that the women would go to the place of worship regularly. In the interview given by the son to the media he can be heard saying that “On Sunday she left home around 5pm and the men brought her back at around 11:30 pm.”

In a tweet by the police of Buduan it said that a case of murder has been filed and two arrests have been made already. Sankalp Sharma The chief of the Buduan police said “The preliminary inquiry has found that the local police station in-charge was negligent in handling the case and I have ordered for his suspension.”

On Monday a video of the accused priest had emerged and in the video he can be seen claiming that the women fell into the well near the place of worship and that he and the others had rescued her. The priest claims in the video “I bought two men to rescue her. We took her out of the well. She was alive. When we dropped her home she was alive.”
