UP allocates Rs. 479 crores in the budget for the modern madrasa system


The government of Uttar Pradesh has allocated 479 crores under the modern madrasa program in the state budget 2021-22. According to data there are 16,000 registered madrasas in the province (with 558 assisted) with about 20 lakh students enrolled.

Madrasa board officials praised the initiative and said it would help provide quality education to students, especially when it comes to modern subjects such as maths, English, Hindi, science, and home science. “The UP government has allocated 9,479 crores in the state budget. This allocation will help us to provide quality education in the madrasas. It can also help us in the modern Madarsa system,” said RP Singh, registrar, UP Board of Madarsa Education. 

There are 131 madrasas registered in Lucknow. According to data recorded on the board, 62 madrasas have been integrated so far under the modern system, sponsored by both central and local governments.The data suggest that there are 16,000 registered madrasas in the province (with 558 assisted) with about 20 lakh students enrolled.

“Under the modern madrasas program, we basically hire teachers for modern subjects to teach students a quality education. We have so far employed about 7,500 teachers so under the program. However, with the help of the new funding, we will be able to hire more teachers in the coming days,” said Singh. Singh went on to say that under the program, the national government had set aside 40 percent and the central government had set aside 60 percent of the funds.
