UP Govt. On Alert as Monkeypox Cases are Increasing

Surveillance increased for people...

On Tuesday, 26 July 2022, The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the administration to reserve beds for monkeypox in Covid-designated hospitals only across the state. Although no monkeypox case has been reported in the state so far.

The officials in all hospitals have been asked to adhere to the Centre's guidelines.

The decision comes on the day sources told PTI that international travellers with monkeypox symptoms will be sent to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital from Delhi airport. On Sunday, Delhi reported the first case of monkeypox.

The patient, who has been admitted to the city's Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, has no history of foreign travel. And, it is the fourth confirmed case of the disease being reported in India.

On Saturday, the WHO declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern.

According to sources in the health ministry, surveillance will be increased for people coming in from countries where monkeypox has become prevalent.

16 labs have been set up in India for testing samples of monkeypox virus so far.

Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It leads to rash and flu-like symptoms. Like the better-known virus that causes smallpox, it is a member of the family called ortho-pox-virus.

After a few days of infection, the rash starts as flat, red bumps, which can be painful. Those bumps turn into blisters, which fill with pus. Eventually, the blisters crust over and fall off — the whole process can last two to four weeks. You can also get sores in your mouth, vagina or anus.
