UP's Sultanpur to be renamed as Kush Bhawanpur

Meanwhile, if the proposal gets accepted, Sultanpur will be the third district to be renamed by Yogi Adityanath.

The Uttar Pradesh government is formulating a plan to rename Sultanpur as Kush Bahawanpur as “Kush” refers to  Lord Ram's son.

According to a senior official, the Board of Revenue has confirmed the news regarding the proposal and said that a letter has been sent to the state government which will get it approved by the state cabinet. BJP MLA from Lambhua (Sultanpur) Devmani Dwivedi is not in favour of the proposal and had earlier also raised the issue in the Assembly.

Following which, the district magistrate of Sultanpur and Divisional Commissioner of Ayodhya had sent a recommendation to the state government and Board of Revenue to change the name of Sultanpur to Kush Bhawanpur, citing the ancient history of Sultanpur in the gazetteer.

Meanwhile, if the proposal gets accepted, Sultanpur will be the third district to be renamed by the Yogi Adityanath government, as earlier he had renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya, and Allahabad as Prayagraj. Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi represents the Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency.
