US Judge blocks Biden's 100-day freeze on deportations

Biden's halt on deportations blocked

On Tuesday, US Federal Judge ceased the implementation of President Joe Biden administration's order of 100 day pause on deportations. President approved a halt on deportations of undocumented immigrants which has been blocked by the federation.

Following the request of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a 14 day temporary restraining order has been granted until further examination of the case. "Complete suspension of deportations can compromise the security of Texans and will be against the federal law," said Paxton in his statement. Taking to his office, Biden took revolutionary steps on first day of his service which included a suspension or moratorium order on deportations of undocumented migrants who landed the United States prior to November 1, 2020, adhering to his campaign manifesto.

Paxton, a close ally of former president Donald Trump, condemned the order after its issuance. "I appeal the court to defend the constitution and ensure safety of citizens," Paxton added in his appeal. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a leading US civil rights group filed a brief seeking the court to deny this request by Paxton. "The voters who denied Trump's unjust and horrendous immigration policies, but Texas is attempting to prevent Biden from turning the page for favourable change," said Cody Wofsy, an attorney with ACLU's Immigrants rights project.

This legal battle can be marked as the beginning of a bitter, broader and stern clash or conflict that might follow. After taking to his office on Jan 20, Biden revoked Trump's controversial immigration policies including construction of a wall on the US-Mexico border. He also sent a bill to Congress for facilitating regularisation of millions of undocumented immigrants. All his measures are in adherence to his campaign promise of easing the lives of immigrants in the country.
