US President Biden to host Quad Summit; PM Modi to attend first in-person meeting of Quad leaders

Other than PM Modi, the US President Joe Biden, Japan PM Yoshihide Suga and Australia PM Scott Morrison will attend the meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States next week to participate in the first in-person Quad Summit which will be attended by the leaders of four countries, that is, the United States, Japan, India and Australia. Other than PM Modi, the US President Joe Biden, Japan PM Yoshihide Suga and Australia PM Scott Morrison will attend the meeting.

The meeting will be hosted by Joe Biden in Washington on September 24 to review the progress made since the first virtual Summit that was held on March 12 this year and also to discuss "regional issues of shared interest," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. They will also review the Quad Vaccine initiative which was announced in March 2021 to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

This will be PM Modi's second international visit this year as he had visited neighbouring country Bangladesh on a two-day tour in March. PM Modi had last travelled to the US when President Donald Trump had hosted a grand 'Howdy, Modi' event for him in September 2019.
