US Urges Myanmar Military To Release Detained Officials

Release detained officials urges US officials to Myanmar military

On Monday, February 01 the United States of America (USA) urged the military of Myanmar to release all the detained officials including the de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and warned that the US may respond over the evident coup.

Weeks after tensions raised between the military and the civilian government, Suu kyi and the country’s President were taken into custody over allegations of fraud in the November elections. The spokesperson of the White House, Jen Psaki said “The United States opposed any attempt to alter the outcome of recent elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition and will take actions against those responsible for these steps are not reversed.” She added “We urge the military and all other parties to adhere to the democratic norms and the rule of law and to release those who were detained today.”

Last week the Myanmar military indicated that it could seize power to settle its claim of irregularities in the polls which National League of Democracy (NLD) the political party of Suu Kyi won easily.
