Uttarakhand CM to meet BJP chief amid leadership change reports

Talks about change of leadership intensified after two party observers Raman Singh and Dushyant Gautam, visited Dehradun on Saturday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat left for Delhi on Monday to meet BJP President JP Nadda amid reports that he may be replaced due to lack of leadership qualities, according to other party MLAs. Assembly polls will take place in Uttarakhand next year. Talks about change of leadership intensified after two party observers Raman Singh and Dushyant Gautam, visited Dehradun on Saturday.

The party observers met MLAs, ministers, the Chief Minister and leaders of the RSS following which they submitted a report to the party president. However, state party chief Bansidhar Bhagat said that there was no replacement of the Chief Minister likely to take place in the state and brushed off the rumours. He said that Saturday's meeting was held to discuss events as Rawat-led government had completed four years in office.

Many MLAs have accused Mr Rawat of failing to communicate with them and are of the view that the BJP will not be able to come to power again next year under Mr Rawat's leadership. The 60-year-old Chief Minister is a low profile politician who does not have any corruption charge against him but he is accused of not taking decisions by other party members, reported NDTV. Some opinion polls have placed him as below average in performance.
