Uttarakhand rain alerts: 65 deaths, 5 tourists among them

Due to heavy rain the govt. pegged the damage worth Rs. 7000 corers


Kapkot/ Uttarakhand: 5 tourists died in Kapkot Uttarakhand due to the outburst of heavy rain. According to the report, the death toll has increased up to 65 and the govt. has pegged the damage of Rs. 7000 crores.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted an aerial survey of the rain damage within the state's worst affected region.

Earlier, the death toll was around 60 but it's gradually increasing day by day.

According to the officials, out of 5 tourists, one of them is missing and the rest 4 dead bodies were recovered.

About 65 tourists had been trapped on the higher reaches of Bageshwar and rescue groups were at work to bring those remaining there to safety, officials said.

The govt. is restoring all the connecting roads and bridges to rescue the stuck citizens. Several rescue teams are working to help out people all over the state. In Nainital, there is the least number of the deceased.

According to a report of Home minister, Amit Shah did not announce any immediate relief package for Uttarakhand and said a detailed estimate of the loss needed to be made first.

He said that the state was given Rs 250 crore a month ago considering its vulnerability to natural disasters which will watch out for the relief and rescue measures presently underway.

He said all blocked roads in the affected areas have been cleared, except three which suffered nearly 25-metre breaches.
