JU Students Allege Ragging


Kolkata, Aug.17 (PTI) Jadavpur University (JU) has, as requested by the governing body, submitted a thorough report to the University Grants Commission (UGC) about many inquiries regarding the alleged ragging and sexual harassment of a 17-year-old undergraduate student that resulted in his demise.

 

"As requested by UGC,our report went into great detail about the proactive measures the university is taking to combat the evil of ragging. According to Basu, they have admitted receiving the same.

 

According to Basu, the UGC will shortly get a new action taken report, which will also be made public. An official of the statutory body in Delhi stated that the UGC had expressed concern with the preliminary report on the incident from the institution, calling it a "generic" report.

 

The institution responded to concerns over suspected ragging and sexual harassment of the fresher with a complete compliance report before the deadline of 12 am on Thursday, according to registrar Snehamanju Basu, according to PTI. The report was supported by documentary evidence.

 

The university had not taken any preventative action, it had been noticed, to stop ragging on campus.

 

On August 9, the 17-year-old student passed away after falling from a second-floor balcony of the major boys' hostel close to the university.

 

His family claimed he was a victim of ragging. According to a police officer, nine persons have so far been detained in connection with this case. PTI SUS ACD.
