West Bengal CID to probe Murshidabad bomb attack on Minister Jakir Hossain

The Labour Minister suffered severe injuries in one hand and leg in the bomb attack in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

The bomb attack on West Bengal's Labour Minister Jakir Hossain will be probed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The minister had suffered injuries in one hand and leg after unidentified people threw a crude bomb at him at Nimtita Railway Station in Murshidabad on Wednesday night.

At least two other persons, who were with the Trinamool Congress MLA of Jangipur, were also injured in the incident. Dr Amiya Kumar Bera, Superintendent Murshidabad Medical College said that Mr Hossain was stable and out of danger. A senior police official said that the case has been handed over to the CID. "A team of forensic experts have visited the spot this morning," he added.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior TMC leaders visited the hospital to check on his health. Mr Hossain was waiting at platform number 2 to board the train to Kolkata when the incident occurred. Taking a jibe at the ruling party, state BJP President Dilip Ghosh said, "The incident shows that West Bengal is not safe even for ministers. The government has failed to control the law and order." The incident occurred ahead of assembly elections that are likely to be held in April-May this year.
