West Bengal: Kolkata Police questions actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty over poll speech

The police questioned Mithun Chakraborty virtually over the speech that he had delivered during the Bengal election campaign.

The Kolkata Police on Wednesday questioned the veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty over his controversial speech during the campaign of West Bengal Assembly Elections. The 71-year-old actor was questioned virtually by the police over the allegations that the star campaigner of the BJP had delivered a provocative speech during the campaign that resulted in post-poll violence in the state.

The Calcutta High Court had directed an investigation officer to question Mithun Chakraborty virtually after the actor had gone to the court to get the FIR cancelled. The FIR filed against him has mentioned a line from his speech which is also a dialogue from one of his movies, "Marbo ekhane lash porbe shoshane (Will hit you here and the body will land at the crematorium)." Mr Chakraborty clarified that he had only recited the dialogues of movies in his speech and had not meant to say it literally.
