WHO Chief Tedros lauds India for timely and decisive vaccine action

While India is heading to launch the biggest vaccination drive in the world aiming to extend the reach of vaccines to 1.3 billion citizens, World Health Organisation's Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus applauds the country for its timely action in resolution of COVID-19 pandemic. India will soon emerge as the largest vaccine producer in the world. After approvals have been granted to Oxford's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin by DCGI (Drug Controller General of India), India began a dry run in many states followed by planning and carving the strategy to lay out mass inoculation program pretty soon. After settling on priorities for the programme, the country will issue proper guidelines and procedures to make this drive successful.

Taking to his twitter handle WHO Chief said, "India continues to take decisive steps and demonstrate its capabilities to root out COVID 19 pandemic. As the world's largest vaccine producer it is effective to do so." He appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by tagging him and further adding, "Our determination and togetherness can facilitate the flow of safe and effective vaccines around the globe to eradicate the vulnerability."

India possesses one of the largest vaccine producing capacities in the world where the Serum Institute of India is a strong premise to this conclusion. India got the authorization to conduct the mass production of vaccines like AstraZeneca, Novavax and Gamaleya Research Institute vaccines. With preparations proceeding in full swing, one can expect the immunisation process to commence by the end of this month. India is observing a constant decline in the number of covid cases from one month with total cases mounting to 1,03,56,844 and recovery rates surging to about 96.2%. The total active cases presently stands at 2,31,036 while the daily case count in the last 24 hours stands at 12,917.

Healthcare and frontline workers along with citizens above the age of 50 are regarded as top priority individuals in this drive.
