Divya Kakran is an Indian freestyle wrestler who bagged a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games of 2022. Kakran took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a recent interview for notwithstanding with athletes’ and never extending support to sportspeople even after promising them. The interview was recorded on Thursday.
Taking a dig at CM Kejriwal, Kakran said “I met with the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal back in 1027 after winning a medal in Asia and he assured me of help if I gave him a letter in writing. I did, but he never got back to me. He did not help me in any way, with nutrition, travel or any other expenses” News agency ANI recently quoted her.
On the other hand, Divya Kakran lauded the UP government for extending massive support to her. She very proudly stated that the UP government stood by her since 2019 when she was recognised for her achievements, and they awarded her with the Rani Laxmi Bai award. Lauding the UP government she said, “In 2020 they gave me a life-long pension. Yesterday, they even announced a cash prize of RS 50 Lakhs and a gazetted officer rank post. Up government has always helped me and even the Haryana government did. But the Delhi government has never stuck through or came to help”.
Reminiscing her struggles in gaining support she told the news agency ANI, “I come from extreme poverty and no money to travel, I have had to sit next to train toilets in a general bogie to travel for competitions. Delhi government has never reached out for support, they never helped us. So, I started fighting from UP in 2018”. She added that even after securing a total of 58 medals for the state she never received the acknowledgement she deserved from them.
