A journalist from Jharkhand Rupesh Kumar Singh is arrested over Maoist links


The Jharkhand Police arrested Rupesh Kumar Singh, a freelancer journalist from Jharkhand on Sunday. He was arrested for suspicion in links to the 2021 case lodged in Saraikela district in which the CPI (Maoist) leader Prashant Bose alias Kishanda is named as an accused.

 

Jharkhand police spokesperson Amol V Homkar reported that Singh was arrested from his home in Ramgarh district. Homkar said, “He was arrested for his links with CPI (Maoist leaders in the case that was registered against the Maoist veteran Prashant Bose. There is no fresh FIR against him”.

 

Singh’s name was also appeared on the list by Pegasus spyware that targeted journalists. Last year on November 12, CPI (Maoist) central committee member Kishanda was arrested. The police named a price for Rs 1 crore for his arrest and five others in the Kandra police station area of Saraikela. The FIR was registered under the IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).  The search cum arrest warrant against Rupesh Kumar Singh had been issued by a Sarikela-kharsawan district court and mentioned FIR number 67/2021. Incidentally it is the same one that was lodged at the Kandra Police station.

 

Satakshi, Rupesh’s wife however said that the family was no informed about the said allegations against Rupesh during arrest. She said, “Around 5:25 Am police personnel arrived and searched our home. In the search warrant FIR 67/2021 was mentioned. However, the police did not tell us on what allegation my husband has been arrested. They took away his laptop and even my younger sister’s laptop”.
