Woman abducted 3 girls from park, nabbed by Panchkula police


Woman accused of kidnapping of three girls of same family from a park, arrested on Monday morning. Deepak, a construction worker who is currently working in sector 6 had let his daughters aged 2, 4 and 6 play at the park next to the house, around 11am on October 26, according to the police.

“When we went back to fetch them around 12.30pm, we realised they were gone,” Deepak said. The family searched for children all nearby areas possible but the kids were nowhere to be found. Then they lodged a FIR under Section 365 of the IPC in the evening at the sector 7 police station.

A CCTV footage revealed a woman taking the three children from the nearby area, police released the information and CCTV photo of the accused on social media. Soon after this, police received a call on Monday morning with similar description of woman and three kids seen near Nada Sahib Gurudwara.

“We reached the spot with a police team and nabbed the accused from the spot, and also recovered the children,” said Noopur Bishnoi, ACP. While Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar who is also investigating officer of the case added, “The girls were recovered and were taken for a medical, and prima facie looked unharmed. We are yet to get the final reports.”

The woman accused of kidnapping is identified as Preeti Trihana (42), a resident of Delhi and was is Panchkula as a ‘tourist’, according to Rakesh Kumar, Sub-Inspector. “She took refuge in guruwaras or other shelter homes. She told us that she had a master’s degree in English and experience of having worked with MNCs. It is an unusual case, where kidnapper is a well-read woman with knowledge of English literature, ” ACP Noopur Bishnoi said. In defense, Preeti said that she “took these children along because their parents were not taking care of them.”

The police is now verifying whether the woman is mentally fit or not. She has been sent to Jail for judicial custody in Ambala as took the children and housed them at various Gurudwaras in Panchkula, Mohalia and travelled as far as Ludhiana.
