Woman Gang-Raped, Murdered In Rajasthan

Dausa: On Monday, A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered at a village in the Dausa district of Rajasthan on Sunday, police said in a conference today.

One person was arrested in connection with the crime on Monday, while efforts are on to nab other accused, officials said.

"The woman had boarded a bus from Jaipur for Dausa on Sunday morning. The accused offered her a lift in their car while she was walking towards her parent's house after getting off the bus," said Rajkumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police, Dausa.

They instead took her to a remote area where she was allegedly gang-raped, Mr. Gupta said, adding that the accused then murdered the woman and threw her body into a well.

Her body was recovered from the well on Monday morning.

Police said the car used in the crime has been identified on the basis of the CCTV footage.

Seventy-seven rape cases were reported across India on an average every day in 2020, totalling 28,046 such incidents during the year.

Total, 3,71,503 cases of crime against women were reported across the country last year, showing a decline of 8.3 per cent as 4,05,326 cases were registered in 2019, the NCRB stated.

Out of total cases of crimes against women in 2020, there were 28,046 incidents of rape involving 28,153 victims, according to the NCRB data for the year, which witnessed COVID-19 outbreak and pandemic-induced lockdowns that time.
