Women's Day Gift:Mumbai Cops Get 8-Hours Shift

It will Help in maintaining a healthy work-home balance!

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 (today). On the Mark of this Day, Mumbai female cops have been gifted with a duty of 8 hours.

As per the information, the order was issued by Commissioner Sanjay Pandey. The directive, issued to help women personnel maintain a healthy work-home balance, will be in force in the metropolis till further orders, officials said on Monday.

Incidentally, Mr. Pandey, as acting DGP of the state, had introduced the 8-hour duty initiative in January this year.

According to an official statement, it says, "As per the CP's order, there are two alternatives for women personnel. In the first option, they will have to work in three shifts, which are 8 am to 3 pm, 3 pm to 10 pm, and 10 pm to 8 am. The second option has shift timings of 7 am to 3 pm, 3 pm to 11 pm, and 11 pm to 7 am." The police department plans to enforce the new order across the state in a month’s period, an officer said.

The decision is being greeted by the female police personnel as it has come at a time when the festival season has just begun in the state. During the festive season due to regular bandobasts, nakabandi, preventive action drives, and other duties, the workload is very high on cops, and especially women cops find it difficult to make a balance between professional and family responsibilities.

Earlier, former Mumbai police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar had also enforced 8-hours duty for constables, in Mumbai.
