World's largest Khadi National Flag To Be Displayed In Jaisalmer

Flag weighs approx. 1400 kgs


The world's largest National Flag made up of Khadi fabric will be displayed today on the India- Pakistan border in Longewala in the western part of Jaisalmer. The main aim to display this flag is to mark the Indian Army Day. Today, January 15 is celebrated as Indian Army Day Every year.


According to the statement given by the Ministry of Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME)"The Monumental National Flag, which is the world's largest National Flag made of Khadi fabric will be put to a grand public display along the India Pakistan border in Jaisalmer to celebrate Army Day."

 

The MSME added, This public display in Longewala will be the fifth such show of the flag, which was inaugurated in Leh last year on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. “Its second public display was on 8th October 2021 at the Hindon airbase on Air Force Day. The third was at the Red Fort on October 21, when the nation completed 100 crore Covid-19 vaccinations. On December 4, it was displayed near the Gateway of India on Navy Day." Said the Ministry.


As per the information, the National flag measures 225 feet long, 150 feet wide and weighs approx 1400 kg. Information also said that it took around 49 days for 70 khadi artists to prepare this flag and has created 3500 man-hours of additional work for khadi artisans and allied workers.

 

The Ashoka chakra in the flag measure a diameter of 30 feet. A whooping of 4500 meters of hand spun, hand woven khadi cotton bunting has been doing which covers an area of 33,750 square feet in the flag.


Information also said, the Monumental National Flag, which symbolises the collective spirit of Indian-ness and the heritage artisanal craft khadi, has been conceptualized and prepared by Khadi and village industries commission (KVIC) to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, "75 years of Independence."
