New emerging cases of dengue, CM requests the residents to take part in minimizing the cause of the infection

New Delhi: New Delhi is suffering from widespread dengue these days. According to the civic report released today, over 1,000 cases of dengue have been reported this year.

The massive spread of dengue has been rising in the city in the last two weeks, with the vector-borne disease claiming its first death in Delhi in late September.

The deceased was named Mamta Kashyap, 35-year-old, and was a resident of Sarita Vihar in south Delhi. She died of dengue at a private hospital, after which her death was recorded on October 18.

Almost 665 cases log till October 23. More than 280 fresh cases have been seen in the last week.

The number of deaths due to dengue in years preceding 2020, had stood at 2 (2019); 4 (2018); 10 (2017); and 10 (2016), according to the official tally maintained by the SDMC.

On Saturday the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the national capital is very close to winning the battle against widespread dengue. He urged residents to take initiative in the Delhi government’s “10 Hafte, 10 Baje, 10 Minute” campaign to combat the infection.

Dengue mosquito larvae breed in clear, standing water.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, “Delhi is now very close to winning the battle against dengue. Earlier, this Sunday too, at 10 am, let us all spend 10 minutes, examining our homes and surrounding areas, for any sign of dirty water. If you do find such water, drain it, replace it or cover it with a small layer of oil. Together, let us all make Delhi dengue-free."
