14 Days Quarantine for Kanwariyas entering Haridwar despite the ban in Uttarakhand .


Ahead of the festive Season, Uttarakhand Government has cancelled the Kanwar Yatra keeping an eye on Covid-19 cases and the risk of infection.Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Government has allowed all the Kanwariyas to travel.

On Thursday (16 July), Uttarakhand Government has decided to quarantine Kanwariyas for two weeks (14 days) who are entering Haridwar despite a ban in Uttarakhand. According to the PTI report, Uttarakhand police Chief Ashok Kumar in a meeting with senior police officials directed them to identify such places where these Kanwariyas can be kept quarantined. Adding more he also asked the officers to form Kanwar enforcement teams in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Pauri and Tehri.

According to the Director-General of Police (DGP), if a Kanwariya is seen on the road, they should be sent back by bus or some other means of transport and kanwariyas coming to Haridwar will be forced to deboard at stations before Haridwar and set back in buses.

Meanwhile, for the second consecutive year, Kanwar yatra has been cancelled in wake of Covid-19 and the supreme court has taken suo motu cognisance of the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to allow yatra from July 25 and has sought responses from the state and the Centre.
