16 Afghanistan evacuees test Covid-19 positive in Delhi

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri received the copies of holy scripture at the Delhi airport on Tuesday.


16 of the 78 Afghanistan evacuees who arrived in Delhi on Tuesday tested Covid-19 positive. As per the government guidelines, all 78 have been quarantined, though all of them are asymptomatic. Among 16, who tested Covid-19 positive, are three Afghan Sikhs who carried the Swaroops of Guru Granth Sahib back to India from Kabul.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri received the copies of holy scripture at the Delhi airport on Tuesday and shared a video on Twitter of himself carrying one of the copies on his head. According to The Indian Express, a BJP national spokesperson said that Dharmender Singh, Kulraj Singh and Himmat Singh, who brought the central holy scripture of Sikhism from Afghanistan were found positive for coronavirus.

Mr Puri said that 626 people, including 228 Indian citizens, have been evacuated from Afghanistan so far. He also informed that 77 among those who were evacuated were Afghan Sikhs. Mr Puri also added that the number of people evacuated from the war-torn country are Indian citizens and the number does not include those working in the Indian Embassy.
