2 soldiers martyred in Srinagar terrorist attack

Militants open fire targeting security forces.

On Thursday, militants ambushed the patrolling party and fired at them indiscriminately critically injuring the two soldiers who later died. The soldiers were part in the line of duty near the HMT area on the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir’s capital, Srinagar.“Terrorist fired at army men at HMT, injuring two soldiers. Initial reports suggest terrorists were in a car in Cambo uniform and fired indiscriminately injuring them both critically. They were immediately rushed to 92 Base Army Hospital Srinagar,” said an official.

Soon after the incident took place, force rushed to the spot and sealed the area and a search operation was launched to nab the attackers.IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “The soldiers were from Kilo Force of the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and were rushed to the Army hospital, unfortunately, both of them died. They may be of Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT) or Jaish-e-Mohommad(JeM) outfits.”

The attack happened just two days before the first phase polling of the District Development Council (DDC) election in Kashmir. Few days ago, four Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, were killed in an encounter with security forces on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Nagrota who were hiding in a truck.“Three terrorists started shooting at our Army soldiers. Two jawans were critically injured and reportedly died of injuries. Jaish has active movement here, by evening we’ll identify the group. Terrorists fled in a car and were armed. Two are probably Pakistani and one local,” officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted praising security forces over the operation, “Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercise in Jammu and Kashmir.”
