30 Lakh vaccinated people to travel in local train: BMC commissioner

The local trains will start from August 15 for the fully vaccinated people.

Maharashtra had reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic that had led to the closure of public transport services such as local trains.

On Sunday, a notice came to limelight that said the local trains will be in service for the daily commuters but only for those who have been completely vaccinated with both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine.  After which Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Chahal said, around 30 lakh people who have received both doses of Covid-19  vaccine will be allowed to travel in the local trains.

According to the statement, BMC commissioner said," Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey had announced the people who have taken both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine can avail Mumbai local train services from August 15, and we have around 19 lakh people in Mumbai who have been fully vaccinated while 56 lakh are vaccinated with one dose." He added, "The local train doesn't only run in BMC but also in Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) areas where around 12 lakh people are there who are fully vaccinated. So, around 30 lakh people will be allowed to travel in the local train as they are fully vaccinated."

Calling the vaccination certificate an immunity certificate, the BMC commissioner said, "I request to the citizens of Mumbai that your fully vaccinated certificate is your immunity certificate. In future, if the malls re-open the certificate may be the requirement and until the Covid ends, you won't be able to travel through the local train if you don't have the certificate." He also said," We have a target of getting the people of Mumbai to get fully vaccinated by November 15 to November 30 this year.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey on Sunday announced that the local train services will start from August 15 for the fully vaccinated people whereas the daily frequent travelers can issue passes online which will be available on their website.
