38 Test Positive For Covid At UP's Magh Mela

Magh Mela takes place at UP's Prayagraj


Thirty-eight people have been tested positive for Covid-19 at Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj at Magh Mela. As per the information, of them 36 are the personnel and two are the devotees and have been kept under isolation.


According to the statement given by the Additional chief medical officer and nodal officer (Covid-19) Dr. Rishi Sahai told TOI, “A total of 38 policemen have been tested positive for Covid-19 infection through RT-PCR.” He added that the samples of over 300 policemen were collected on Tuesday through RT PCR after some cops complained of mild symptoms.


Magh Mela is an annual fair which takes place in Makar Sankranti. This is observed on 14 and 15 January. During the Magh Mela, devotees, priests, and several other people attend this annual fair and take showers in the holy river. 


Ahead of COVID where there's an incessant rise in the cases. Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a surge in its Covid-19 tally. It hasn't implemented any kind of restrictions ahead of Magh Mela.

 

The information states that only a negative RT-PCR is mandatory for the devotees or people to attend this annual fair. The RT-PCR test should not be older than 24 hours. Around 14 health teams have started thermal screening of visitors at entry points.
