5 dead, around 40 missing after cloudburst in Jammu's Kishtwar district

Reportedly, nine houses have been damaged in the mishap.


At least 5 bodies were recovered and around 40 are reported to be missing after a cloudburst over Honjar village in Kishtwar district of the Jammu Division at 4 am on Wednesday. SSP Shafqat Bhat said that so far five bodies have been recovered from the debris, reported Jagran Josh. He also said that probably 30 to 40 people were in the village at the time of the incident.

Reportedly, nine houses have been damaged in the mishap. Rescue teams including police and army personnel have been sent to the site. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been airlifted from Jammu to join the rescue team and the Indian Air Force are expected to join soon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir. The IMD has also issued an advisory as water level in all rivers has risen and incessant rain may cause landslides, flash flood and waterlogging in the low lying areas.
