5 More Die In Bihar Due To Consumption Of Spurious Liquor

Four people fell critically ill!

Incidents of deaths due to poisonous liquor seem to continue to haunt the state of Bihar. On Wednesday, five people died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Dumrao of Buxar district of Bihar. Four of them fell critically ill and immediately rushed to the hospital.

The incident was filed from Ansari village under Murar police station. The tragedy took place within a week of five deaths due to suspected consumption of spurious liquor in Saran district of Bihar.

A week before, Nalanda district officials had confirmed 11 deaths due to the consumption of poisonous alcohol.

Buxar SP Neeraj Kumar Singh said that the administration was informed about the death of the five people and the police are investigating the case.

In October and November, 2021, over 40 people had died in different districts of Bihar after consuming spurious liquor. Soon after the tragedy, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that an investigation had been issued.

However, with the government’s efforts failing to stop the deaths, the Opposition has launched an attack on CM Nitish Kumar. The CM has not been spared even by his ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Yuva Morcha has demanded that the prohibition law be repealed as it had “completely failed”.

BJP spokesperson Arvind Kumar Singh said that if the liquor prohibition law has failed in Bihar, it is due to officers who are not strictly enforcing it.

The Opposition has even demanded CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation. "Nitish Kumar should resign from his post, taking responsibility for the way poisonous liquor is causing death in Bihar," RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said.
