527 Deaths Recorded in Germany due To Covid-19 in a Day

69,601 new COVID-19 cases reported in last 24 hours

On Wednesday, Germany recorded the highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 since February as it battles to stop the upcoming wave of the pandemic.

The German Robert Koch Institute for disease control said, A total number of 69,601 new infections were reported, 2,415 more than from the last week, and 527 people died - the highest number since February 12, which took the total number to 104,047.

However, On Tuesday, the country's total seven-day incidence rate of cases per 100,000 people continued to decrease, declining to 427 from 432.

Experts have questioned whether the metric means Germany has passed the peak of this wave of the pandemic or whether the figures are unreliable as some health authorities are so overwhelmed, particularly in the hardest hit areas by Covid-19.

Last week the country put a bar on the unvaccinated from access to all but the most essential shops such as grocery stores, pharmacies and bakeries and to ramp up the vaccination campaign.
