6 November - An International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

Day is celebrated to discuss the damage and solutions caused by war/conflicts

A nation has gone through many wars, fights and conflicts to build a concrete nation. Humanity has always counted its war casualties in terms of dead and wounded soldiers and civilians, ruined cities and livelihoods, the environment has often remained the unpublicized victim of war. It is not confined to humans destruction shrouds its clouds over the whole nation, whether its soil, animals, trees, forests etc.

Therefore, to enhance the environment, "International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict" is celebrated on 6 November every year.

This day was established on 5 November 2001, during the United Nations General Assembly and under the supervision of Kofi Atta Annan (Secretary-General). The assembly considered that any environmental damage in times of armed conflict impairs, ecosystems and natural resources long after the period of conflict.

It has been observed that many people of the world get connected through the internet, technology, radio etc and discuss the post effects and solutions after the war. Many experts, teachers, government officials, scientists, journalists, educators etc work collectively to find methods to limit the environmental damage caused by armed conflict and war.

People organise seminars, speeches, lectures, news articles, radio talks, and classroom activities in schools that focus on the topic. They learn and share knowledge about the dangers of new technologies in war such as depleted uranium ammunition, which poses unknown threats to the environment. The world should know the knowledge of preventing the environment from these situations.

Celebration of the day is done in schools, offices etc therefore it is not regarded as a public holiday.
