In India, every year more people die of road traffic injuries or road accidents than of malaria, tuberculosis or HIV. In 2019, over 1.51 lakh people died due to injuries caused by road accidents. This was more than the total deaths caused by the three diseases combined. The situation however seems to have been improving for, between 2018 and 2020, India has witnessed a drop in road traffic injuries.
