9 Dead, 45 Injured In Bikaner- Guwahati Derail Incident

Incident took place near Domohani In West Bengal


On Thursday (January 13) Around 9 people lost their lives and 45 were injured in a train accident. As per the information, the Bikaner- Guwahati express train derailed near Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.


According to PTI, Jalpaiguri magistrate said, we recovered four bodies from the accident site while three people died in the hospital. He said, at least 45 passengers were injured in the accident. "Since some of them are in a critical condition, the death toll may go up. We are now using cranes for removing the damaged compartments."

 

Further said, rescuers thoroughly searched each coach for survivors and bodies through darkness and thick fog. The National disaster response force (NDRF) rushed two teams to rescue passengers trapped after multiple bodies of the train (15633) Guwahati - Bikaner derailed.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took stock of the situation and an enhanced amount of ex gratia compensation to the victims of the Incident. He announced Rs 1 Lakh for severely injured and 25,000 for minor injuries. 


According to the information, Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaibhav will visit the accident site. Also, the injured passengers are being treated at hospitals in Maynaguri and Jalpaiguri.


According to ANI statement, TMC MP feels that the Railway Minister should give a clear statement," it is suspected that there was a crack on the track, it should be investigated. The railway minister should give a clear statement on this incident." She said to ANI.
