Activist Nikita Jacob gets transit bail for 3 weeks

The case was heard by a single-judge bench of Justice P D Naik who granted three weeks transit anticipatory bail to the activist Nikita Jacob.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted 3 weeks transit anticipatory bail to advocate and activist Nikita Jacob against whom a non-bailable warrant had been issued by the Delhi Police in connection with the Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg's 'toolkit' case. The court said that Ms Jacob can be released on bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and one surety of the same amount.

The case was heard by a single-judge bench of Justice P D Naik who said that the applicant (Ms Jacob) is being granted bail so that she can approach the competent court to seek appropriate relief. Ms Jacob had mentioned in the application that the case was registered in Delhi and since she was a permanent resident of Mumbai, she sought an interim bail in the case.

Justice Naik had heard Ms Jacob's plea on Tuesday but had reserved the order. While passing the order, Justice Naik cited the Aurangabad bench order according to which Shantanu Muluk, another activist against whom a non-bailable warrant was issued by the Delhi Police, got relief. On Tuesday, a single-judge bench of Justice Vibha V Kankanwadi of the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court granted 10-day transit anticipatory bail to Mr Muluk on a personal bond of Rs 50,000, to approach the competent/appropriate court for relief.

Ms Jacob has been booked under IPC Sections 124(A) for sedition, 153(A) for promoting enmity between different groups, and 120(B) for criminal conspiracy. Another activist, Disha Ravi was arrested by the Delhi Police in the same case on Sunday.
