AIIMS Chief Randeep Guleria: Focus should be on vaccinating everyone, booster can wait

According to Sero Survey, Mr Guleria said, in the likely third wave there may not be as many coronavirus cases if people are vaccinated in strength.

AIIMS Chief Randeep Guleria said that now the focus should be on to vaccinate as many people as possible to control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. He said that importance should be given to those who fall in high-risk category and added that booster doses can wait for the time being. "For now, boosting people should be kept aside and providing vaccines to the people will be effective right now, through which people's lives may also be saved,” Mr Guleria said. He added that still many healthcare workers, many elderly and those with comorbidities have not been fully vaccinated yet and they are the ones who have a chance of having more severe disease and dying because of COVID-19.

In addition, he said that instead of giving booster shots to people, the focus should be to vaccinate them in order to save lives. He emphasized that rather than going in for three shorts or more and trying different things, we should stick to what we know right now. Moreover, he said that enough data is not available which shows the need for giving booster shots to people. According to Sero Survey, Mr Guleria added, in the likely third wave there may not be as many coronavirus cases if people are vaccinated in strength. So far, 60 crore people have been administered vaccines.
